Notes: Adventure for Orchestra
“Adventure”
started life in an electronic studio in 1985.
My dear friend Harrison Rogers, an accomplished screenwriter,
wrote a wonderful screenplay about a young 14-year old boy who travels
with an older 20-something young woman in a quest for a magical
crystal. The two must
allude all sorts of perilous obstacles including a band of thieves who
are searching for the crystal as well.
Harrison
asked me to write some short themes in an effort to sell the script.
Those themes and the film score emerged into this suite for
orchestra.
“Adventure” is
an all-out film score starting with a lavishly orchestrated main title
opening progressing to a more tender interlude that underlines the
main character’s unrequited love for his older companion.
The middle section is devoted to the mysterious and
awe-inspiring properties of the crystal, and the subsequent action
sequences the main characters endure to acquire it.
A delightful piccolo solo accentuates a humorous dialog with
both a bassoon and tuba culminating into a ferocious Presto finale.
